October 10, 2016 - Market Update

Last week saw the U.S. equity markets snap a three week winning streak, falling approximately 0.50%, while 10yr U.S. Treasury bond yields surged from 1.59% up to 1.72%. Gold traded sharply lower (down to its 200 day moving average) as did most industrial metals while the U.S. dollar strengthened nearly 1% against a trade weighted basket of other currencies. Crude oil traded higher on news of a tentative OPEC production agreement in Algeria and a fifth consecutive unexpected weekly decline in U.S. crude oil inventories. [...]

October 3, 2016 - Market Update

Friday's close marked the end of the week, month, and third quarter. The week ended on a marginally positive note with stock, bond, and commodity markets posting marginal gains. U.S. equity markets rallied on Friday, pushing themselves into the black while interest rates drifted lower throughout the week only to move higher during the 'risk on' rally Friday. Rates fell approximately 0.02% across most maturities resulting in a relative parallel shift downward in yields across the yield curve. [...]
